ジョージ・W・ブッシュの弟（2番目）本名ジョン・エリス・ ブッシュ。フロリダ州知事。2008年大統領選に出馬予定。
兄に比べると格段に口がうまいジェブは、フロリダ州に移住してから連邦融資金に関わる不正疑惑が絶えないが、彼の最大の犯罪は、なんといっても2000年大統領選挙での不正疑惑である。（詳細はグレッグパラスト氏のスクープ記事、英BBCドキュメンタリー「フロリダで何が起こったか？」を見て欲しい）
フロリダ州知事であるジェブは、2000年大統領選のフロリダ州投票実施に先駆けて、「フロリダ州民重罪前科者リスト」を作成し、リストに該当する約9万4千人のフロリダ州住民の投票資格を剥奪した。（テキサス州、フロリダ州など南部の13の州では重罪前科 者の投票権を認めていないという）
しかし、リストに掲載された「前科者」の大半は実際には無実だったのである。この不正な手法（フロリダ州当局は事務上のミスと説明した）により、フロリダ州ではおよそ9万人以上の有権者が違法に投票資格を剥奪されたのである。しかもリストに掲載された約 54％は黒人で、黒人の大半が民主党支持者でゴアに投票する予定であった。英BBC放送の試算では、この不正なリストにより、アル・ゴアは少なくとも2万2000票を失っていたという。（ブッシュ大統領の勝利の根拠であるゴアとの票差はたったの537票）
リスト作成を担当したのはフロリダ州務長官キャサリン・ハリス。彼女はジェブの親しい部下（愛人と噂されている）であるだけでなく、（偶然にも！）ジョージ・ブッシュ選挙チームの人間だった。この件ではジェブ・ブッシュは連邦法違反が明確であったが、事件に関係した州の役人は誰一人罪に問われなかった。（このあたりの事情はエリックブラムリッチ氏のアニメーショ ン解説に詳しい）
この「前科者リスト」データの管理作業を担当したのは 民間企業チョイスポイント社の子会社、データベーステ クノロジー社。強力な共和党支援企業である同社は、（フロリダでの黒人有権者の公民権剥奪によるブッシュ当選への貢献を認められた結果?）ブッシュ政権による米国市民の監視事業のひとつ「MATRIX」プロジェクトを受注している。（参照元）
2004年大統領選挙の投票の際も、2000年とほぼ同じ投票システムのため、同じトラブル（不正）が起こると見られている。もちろん2000年大統領選挙では、フォックスニュースが票カウント前にブッシュ勝利宣言ニュースを配信して世論を誘導したり、連邦最高裁ではチェイニーの友人である判事が票カウントを停止する命令を出すなど、ブッシュ陣営による他の不正も連携していたが、最高裁判事もフォックスニュースもそのままの状態で今 日に至っている。
ジェブ・ブッシュは人種差別主義者なのだろうか？フロリダ州知事に就任した際に、黒人住民向けの新しい保護政策について問われたジェブは、こう回答したそうである。「たぶん何もしないよ」

State wants felons purged from voter list

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
Florida elections officials have ordered local supervisors to begin purging their voter rolls of felons - an election-year directive that some say would remove up to 40,000 people, many of them likely black Democrats.
The issue of felon voting surfaced from Florida\'s 2000 presidential election recount, a five-week odyssey that resulted in George W. Bush\'s capturing the White House.
Bush won Florida\'s pivotal 25 electoral votes in 2000 by 537 votes out of more than 6 million cast in the state.
Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings said Thursday the administration had no choice in ordering the purge, that it was complying with the federal election law.
Critics said Florida used out-of-state lists to purge former felons, taking their voting rights away although they had been restored in the state where the crimes had been committed. Florida is among a handful of states that does not automatically restore voting rights of convicted criminals once they leave prison.
Others complained that they were erroneously purged from the rolls because their name was identical or similar to a felon. Critics said blacks were disproportionately affected.
In 2000, some local supervisors refused to purge their rolls because they said they had no faith in how the state compiled its list of disqualified voters.
And since that election, the secretary of state\'s office has been moved from Cabinet status in Florida to an agency under the governor - Jeb Bush - the younger brother of President Bush.
The secretary of state\'s office defends its move to purge the voter lists.
Jenny Nash, a spokeswoman for Secretary of State Glenda Hood, said it\'s mandatory under state law and that the list has the approval the U.S. Department of Justice and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which sued the state in 2001 over the list used in 2000.
\"We feel confident that the same mistakes made in 2000 will not be repeated,\" Nash said Wednesday.
However, some supervisors question why the administration is making the move this close to the election. Florida\'s primary is Aug. 31 and the general election is Nov. 2.
\"Why is the state doing this now?\" said Ion Sancho, the election supervisor in Leon County who recently changed his registration from Democrat to no party affiliation.
