ハワードは１０日、ジャカルタで９日起きた爆破事件に関して記者会見し、使われた爆弾が２００２年のバリ島事件などと成分が似ていると指摘した。ハワードの事件をバリの事件と結び付けたい意図が見え隠れするわけだが、そのことはまた、この事件の犯人が誰かを自供したのに等しい印象が与えられるものなのである。

KUTA, Indonesia A former member of the Indonesian Air Force has confessed to investigators that he assembled the bomb that destroyed the heart of Bali's nightclub district Saturday, killing at least 181 people, an Indonesian security official said Tuesday.・・・
The police interrogated Lieutenant Colonel Dedy Masrukhin, who received training in handling explosives in the US and was discharged last year over his involvement in a drug case. Conflicting police statements have been issued over his involvement.

An international panel of experts says it has identified a "curious link" between associates of the outlawed regional terrorist group Jemaah Islamiah and the Indonesian military (TNI).
The Brussels-based International Crisis Group (ICG) said the connection was strong enough to raise the question of how much the TNI knew about Jemaah Islamiah (JI) before the October 12 Bali bombing that killed more than 180 people.
In recent weeks, Indonesian police separately arrested Bali bombing mastermind Imam Samudra, a member of Jemaah Islamiah, and his alleged boss, Muklas, who is believed to have become the regional chief for the group.
The report by the International Crisis Group looked at other attacks believed to have been carried out by the Jemaah Islamiah network, focusing on the Christmas Eve, 2000, attacks on a number of churches across Indonesia in which 19 people died.
It said that an associate of the JI leaders in Malaysia named Teungku Fauzi Hasbi maintained regular contact with Major-General Syafrie Syamsuddin, who is the present TNI spokesman.
The connection between Hasbi and General Syamsuddin was established in 1979, when Hasbi surrendered to General Syamsuddin, then an officer with the TNI's special forces in Aceh province in north Sumatra.
Hasbi was a defector from the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), a guerrilla group that has been fighting the TNI since 1976 and which signed a peace agreement on Monday.
He is regarded as a traitor by the GAM leadership and divides his time between Indonesia and Malaysia, the report said.
He treats senior JI member Hambali as a son, it said.
"Hasbi maintains regular communication with Major-General Syafrie Syamsuddin to this day and is known to be close to the National Intelligence Agency head Hendropriyono," the report states.
"An army intelligence officer interviewed by ICG had Hasbi's number programmed into his cell (mobile) phone.
"This link needs to be explored more fully: it does not necessarily mean that military intelligence was working with JI, but it does raise a question about the extent to which it knew or could have found out more about JI than it has acknowledged."
The 35-page report also looks at the recruitment methods of JI, including that of Samudra, who is now in detention in Bali.
It says Samudra recruited most of his foot soldiers from state-run Islamic high schools in West Java.
Potential members of JI cells would be provoked to outrage by videos of Christian atrocities in religious conflicts.
They would be taught to fear governments "enslaved to infidels".
Samudra, born Abdul Aziz, and other JI members would hold study groups that watched videos showing fighting between Christians and Muslims in the areas around the eastern island of Ambon and the town of Poso in Sulawesi.
After four months of studying teachings by the late JI co-founder Abdullah Sungkar, the groups would start to focus about 70 per cent of their time on military training.
The report said that detained JI founder Abu Bakar Bashir, 64, fell out with many of JI's Malaysian leaders who found him "insufficiently radical".
The report said recruits had nothing to do with the Laskar Jihad, which is more widely recognised in Indonesia as the militant anti-Christian force sent to the eastern islands three years ago.
